Julie Forrester is a visual artist and creative producer, whose practice prioritises process-based approaches often working collaboratively and ‘in context’. Forrester’s work is characterised by an enquiry into narrative forms arising from connection with place and shared experience.

With a long career as artist in education contexts, JF has served on the panels of numerous arts organisations locally and nationally, including local Authority Arts Offices, The HSE Arts in Health, The Design and Crafts Council of Ireland, Creative Ireland’s Artists in Schools programmes and The Arts Council’s Artists in Prisons Scheme. She works with The Crawford Art Gallery’s Learn & Explore Team, conducting tours of exhibitions and leading creative engagement programmes such as Follow Your Nose in collaboration with Cork Migrant Centre.

Forrester’s art projects have received awards from Creative Climate Action (2024) and The Arts Council of Ireland. She has been commissioned by the Department of Education and Science for her participatory public artworks. Numerous participatory projects initiated by Forrester have been supported by awards from Cork City Council’s Arts in Context grants. Works include the ceramic sculpture Yin Yang the Glen  (known locally as the Snake) in the Glen River Park, made  on a residency with the Glen community as part of Cork Capital of Culture 2005.

Her current curatorial project, Gleann a’Phúca revisits the Glen with a team of artists and participatory offerings across 2024 and beyond.
