In my work with The Dolls I attempt to explore ideas about subjectivity, addressing the O/other through a layering of gesture, language, voice, repetition and analogy. Image and meaning enter a dialogue encompassing states of alterity, mutuality, proxy and mutability.
The dolls own their context, they may mock or mirror or evade our presence, in their interactions with human counterparts the origin of the movement is unclear, just who is in in control of the gesture? Does it come from without or within?
