Drawing is a way of exploring the subject/object relationship. The method is both a meditation, and an invocation – a ritualistic way of loosening ties allowing an exchange of position.

Printmaking yields further ‘contamination’ – an introduction of a third element – the process of transferal from one surface to another mimics/reverses/mirrors the exchange that occurs during drawing. A process involving layering offers potential for opacity and transparency, covering and revealing and unpremeditated encounters on the surface.

“Wattage” – Ed Cashman asked me to record myself reading a poem of his, I said send me one, he sent me “She Stood in a Gleaming Raincoat” I recorded it while pointing my camera at a drawing. I had several drawings from the same object. The object has nothing to do with the words. I was interested to see how one interprets an image while listening to a text. I thought it might be interesting to repeat the poem with similar, related but different images. To explore the space of a drawing, guided by imagery from the text….
